Why Do You Need to Verify Wallet Ownership?
The Travel Rule is a regulatory requirement, based on FATF recommendations, that obliges crypto service providers to collect and verify sender and recipient information for certain transactions. In the European Union, this includes mandatory verification of private wallet ownership for deposits or withdrawals over €1,000.
How Can You Verify Your Wallet at Ramp?
There are two main methods:
Digital signature verification
Manual verification via screenshot
Method 1: Digital Signature Verification (via WalletConnect)
The fastest and most secure way to verify wallet ownership is by signing a unique, non-transactional message with your wallet. Here’s how it works:
Connect your wallet
Select your wallet provider (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet) and connect through our WalletConnect flow.
Sign a verification message
Ramp generates a one-time message for you to sign.
This does not send or move any funds.
Signing proves cryptographically that you control the wallet’s private keys.
Get instant confirmation
If the signed message matches the wallet address you’re verifying, the process completes immediately.
Address mismatch
If the signed address doesn’t match the one you’re verifying, you’ll be prompted to connect the correct wallet or cancel the process.
Mobile wallet note
Some wallet types (e.g., BTC and SOL) don’t yet support digital signature verification in mobile apps. You’ll be redirected to Ramp’s web version to complete verification.
If you’re unable to verify your wallet using our WalletConnect flow, you can complete verification by providing a screenshot instead. This serves as a backup method to confirm wallet ownership.
Method 2: Manual Verification via Screenshot (Backup Option)
Part 1: Take the Screenshot
Log into your mobile wallet and locate your wallet address.
💡 Tip: In most mobile wallets, you’ll find it by tapping the “Receive” or ‘Fund
button or icon. Example:
’
Make sure the full wallet address is visible. Cropped images cannot be approved.
Take the screenshot inside your wallet app or platform (not from a blockchain explorer).
Ensure no sensitive details (e.g., recovery phrases, private keys) are visible.
Part 2: Submit the Ticket
Return to this article and click the ticket form button at the bottom of the page.
In the ticket form:
Upload your screenshot.
Provide the email address linked to your Ramp account (so we can identify you).
Enter the name of your wallet provider.
Once approved, we’ll confirm your verification, and your wallet address will not need to be re-verified for future transactions.
